don't be a drag, just be a queen.: Soledad's Sister: A Book Review
A book review I wrote for class…since I don’t get to post that often these days. (It goes without saying, but please credit if you would like to use it. :))

There comes a time is one’s life when reading books spontaneously, just for the heck of it, becomes something of…
Day 1, Sorting and Packing: Books
I finished my work earlier than I expected so I immediately started to pack our books. I decided to pack them first because I figured that I won’t need all of them in the meantime. Also, I was excited to see what books I would include in the garage sale.
(Side Note: Since it’s not really going to be held in a garage, what do you suppose we should call it?)
I figured I had many books but not a whole bunch. These are my bookshelves and several other places where I keep my books.

When I finished, I had seven boxes. I tried to use smaller boxes because boks are really heavy and if you fill up a big box, it’s going to be too heavy to lift. Unfortunately, boxes are not uniform where I come from so I had to make do. The ideal is 1.5 cu.
These are the books up for sale so far. There are some books I’m still iffy about so this pile might get bigger in the near future.

Always pack books on their edges. Packing them with their spines facing you might lead to warping and damage once you pull them out. Also, never overpack your books! On the other hand, it’s still important to make sure that the books can’t shift around inside while in transit.

Whew! I’ve still got a long way to go. May the sweet Lord give me strength. Hehe. I can’t wait to unpack them in my new bookshelves! :D

my husband and i desperately need an office. that is why we upgraded from a 1 bed/1 bath 579 sq ft apartment to a 2 bed/2 bath 1080 sq ft condo. the second bedroom will serve as an office, but to make it more functional, we decided it will serve as a guest room, as well, by adding a sofa bed.
unfortunately, there is not much space to work with, as the room is narrow with two long walls. so, as mentioned before when discussing book storage solutions, i think the best route is vertical organization. maybe i can do it all-in-one, like the second photo. both storage and work space.

the evolution of geek. this is cool. im definitely a star trek, tech, movie, geek chic.
must…reblog…
i was once a academic-science, D&D and videogame geek who then evolved into an all-around academic and book geek, with a bit of theatre geek mixed in. :)
Those are Filipino books! Where the heck is this place???

Books to Read this SemBreak
Here are the books I hope to go through during the two-week vacation. Well, here’s to hoping that the semestral break doesn’t last that long and I still have a job in November. You see, I’m only under a six-month contract (one semester) under an institution that likes to think it can save money by quickly disposing of faculty quickly as well.
- Why Do Men Have Nipples? Hundreds of Questions You’d Only Ask a Doctor After Your Third Martini. Mark Leyner and Billy Goldberg, MD.

I’m about 30% into the book and I have learned so many things! Like, what’s the medical term for that tingly, pins and needles feeling you get when your leg (or arm, whatever) falls asleep? (It’s paresthesias.) Also, the physiological study of laughter is called gelotology. When you cannot stop laughing for the life of you, you may be having a gelastic seizure. Last but not the least, that room-clearing smell that happens as a result of sweat mixing bacteria is called bromhidrosis. I can’t wait to finish the whole book! :)
- Breakfast at Tiffany’s, Truman Capote.

I haven’t started this one yet but I’ve been meaning to read this in a long time. After that, maybe I can go around to watching the classic movie.
- Night World 3: Spellbinder, LJ Smith.

This is the third book I’ve read from the Night World series. I first read LJ Smith when I was fifteen and was going through a very geeky phase. By that, I mean attending a high school under a city science program, Dungeons and Dragons, videogame fanzines, interest in Wicca, dressing like no one else and voracious reading. I kind of miss those days. I miss the people I did those things with, especially.
- Feminism: A Very Short of Introduction, Margaret Walters.

This is quite an interesting read. Although I don’t expect to finish it like I would a pocket book but still, I love absorbing history and theory. Nowadays, people think being a feminist is either automatic or overrated for women. I’ve always had strong opinions about gender issues but I think that I need more background in order to settle this for myself. Wish me luck!
- Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, JK Rowling.

Another book from my teenage years. Since the book series and the movies are over, I really just want to go over questions I had before. Unfortunately, I can only remember these questions as I read.
So, what’s your sembreak reading list?
i want this so very badly. :(
